The Hulett Development Company has been formed in order to fulfil this legacy by developing something truly unique, in harmony with nature.

The directors of the Hulett Development Company bring years of property & business experience to the table as well as a huge amount of passion. Brett Hulett, whose family have always owned the land is the majority shareholder. Brett has been involved with many properties before - but this is the one he is most passionate about.

Ed Emary is a qualified attorney & founding director of the JSE-listed Jasco. He brings years of business acumen and ethics to the development. Brendan Falkson, has an engineering degree & a property development diploma. He is also the founding director of PSC Civils (Pty) Ltd, a company that has specialized in road & infrastructure development over the past 13 years with branches in both Kwazulu Natal and Gauteng. He is also an active shareholder and developer in other successful property developments including Marula Hill Corporate & Industrial Park, Sheffield Square Shopping Centre & Almond Bank Equestrian & Bushveld Estate. Uniquely, both Brett & Brendan will be living on the estate, with their houses under construction.

The practice was established to specialise in residential architecture, utilising the skills of the architects who have substantial experience in sophisticated individual houses, with subtle vernacular style and carefully articulated forms.

Kevin Lloyd, the principal director, has been part of the project team as Design Architect on the Zimbali Estate since its inception. He was responsible for the hotel and clubhouse projects as well as approximately thirty houses on the Estate. Other estates in which he has assisted with the design guidelines and received commissions include Ilala Ridge and Brettenwood estates.

Kevin completed his studies in architecture at the University of Port Elizabeth in 1979 and began in practice with Wim Phielix Architects in 1981. He began a masters degree in Town and Regional Planning in 1983 at the University of the Free State. He joined the national practice, Theunissen Jankowitz in 1985, where he later became a director and established two offices, in Margate and later in Durban.

Kevin resigned from the company in 2002 to begin his own specialized practice. He received an award of merit for the LMC office block, special mention for the Zimbali Lodge and Clubhouse, special mention for the Dulux Colour Award and won a KZNIA housing design competition. Work has been done outside South Africa, specifically in Ghana and Nigeria and this involved substantial travel, Kevin's hobby.

At Brettenwood Coastal Estate, our two firms, MAB Ikhwezi Architects and Tony Falkson Architect, have chosen to work in association to give our clients a full and comprehensive service, from initial concept through to final handover.
